Investigating the Impact of Epilepsy on Cognitive Function: A Narrative Review

We explored 25 relevant articles on PubMed and Cochrane Library after implementing inclusion criteria. Different factors postulated studied may cause dysfunction in these patients; structural brain abnormalities, polypharmacy of antiepileptic medication, neuropsychiatric disorders are the most common causes. Cognitive assessments such as Montreal Assessment (MOCA) Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) mainstay tools used to diagnose degree decline, alterations EEG (electroencephalogram) parameters also with decline. The mechanisms treatments decline still being studied, while attention directed toward preventive predictive methods. Early detection treatment impairment can help minimize its impact patient's quality life. Regular essential epileptic patients, particularly those multiple drugs.
